Public involvement is an integral part of the S.R. 29 Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study. FDOT used several activities to engage interested parties in the study process, including small group meetings, an alternatives public meeting and a formal public hearing.

The department held meetings with agencies and stakeholders throughout the study. These meetings will assist the project team with identifying issues, opportunities, and potential transportation solutions for the corridor. Throughout the study process, FDOT will provide presentations to various organizations and interested citizens may request a presentation to their group or organization.

FDOT held a public hearing for this study on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the LaBelle Civic Center in LaBelle. The hearing began with an open house at 6 pm and followed with a formal presentation and public comment period at 7 pm.

The study team presented the recommended widening option and alignment alternative for S.R. 29 at this hearing. FDOT invited the public to attend the hearing and take the opportunity to give public testimony regarding proposed improvements. The department made a final decision on the basis of these recommendations - since the public has had an opportunity to review and comment on the recommended alternative.
